As the gnome requests are filled, and having now made hundreds of the little playful wool fiber sculptures, the playscape became an important design feature to develop. To offer a one of a kind landscape for the gnomes to play in has become most enjoyable as each are so unique. The playscape initially was to offer a safe place for the wool sculptures to play without distressing the fibers too much. Some playscapes that feature a cave entrance as shelter for the gnomes and woodland friends, are designed to hang on the wall as art when not being engaged in story / play time – the cave becomes a pocket for little felted friends to sleep. The mushroom circles and houses are very popular and a joy to make. I am now designing a tree stump house that folds out and will act like a portable toy when all closed up. So exciting – when complete will post pictures :O) find more on my instagram account under artistleahwilson.
A bit of history (only a few months ago in the past but for all that has transpired – feels like a long time ago) – when the amazing gnomes concept was first decided to be a go – it was in tandem with the idea to make some entertainment out of the cute wool felt sculptured gnomes – I knew that eventually there would be a Youtube channel before I even knew how to use the format – only that I would need lots of photos and some ideas and to act on them and get some content going on. Today was the day! Starting out with the basics, a slide show featuring some photos and some Gnomespirations, and a little video tour of the beach bellow the house where the gnomes love to adventure – a little bit of fun in the sun. Posting to all the social media platforms can take all day, Instagram is so far my favorite (you can find me by artistleahwilson), though Youtube may be soon to take the lead. :O) having fun and getting stuff done.
It is with great pleasure to showcase today my newest hand felted creation, the first of many to come, the Felted Playscape for amazing gnomes and friends. Using both wet felting and dry felting techniques, this unique one of a kind scene was inspired by Foxy Fox and the little gnome pictured below. This item took allot of wool, and 16 hours of felting, as a finishing touch machine made felt fabric acts as a base – giving it even more of a solid foundation and that professional finished look. So excited to take on making playscapes for the gnomes and friends, this one with my original foxy fox and the little gnome pictured here, will be the first of my big items listed on my new etsy store soon to be launched. Calling it “The Foxy Fox Playscape #1” as I intend on making a few of these playscape sets – each with a foxy fox, a little gnome friend, and a place with a water feature, a green hill that is the home of foxy fox and the little gnome, some flowers, and a little mushroom. Variations will happen to be sure, as my imagination is in overdrive – can’t wait to make more. Would love your feedback, being a new concept – its always important to hear how it is perceived, thanks, much gratitude.
